About
Waging Peace is a charity that supports Sudanese people seeking asylum or who have refugee status to build meaningful lives in the UK. We work solely with the Sudanese community and have built trust as well as expert knowledge of this country since our foundation in 2004.
An overview of some of their main activities
-
Providing emotional support by listening to your concerns and giving advice that can help.
-
Liaising between clients and lawyers, to aide clear communication and ensure work is continually being done on asylum cases.
-
Providing connections with other members of the Sudanese diaspora to act as a support network, or substantiate aspects of your claim, i.e. membership of a tribal group or political party
-
Referring you to other relevant services that can provide support in other areas such as; finding accommodation, finding employment or accessing healthcare services, providing support with learning English etc. Please note Waging Peace cannot help by providing accommodation or housing options directly.
-
Supporting diaspora members to create and run events, particularly training opportunities.
-
For clients with whom they have an established relationship, they are sometimes able to listen to their testimony in order to produce a letter in support of their asylum claim. This is not something they routinely supply, however, and should ideally not form the sole reason for your contact with them.
-
Providing expertise for asylum claims in areas such as; risks of return to Sudan, risks for different ethnic groups in Sudan as well as numerous other areas.
-
Helping clients to source practical items that they need such as clothes or shoes
-
Educating clients on how to contact their MPs. This could be to find out more information from the Home Office on an asylum case, or to lobby them on issues concerning Sudan.
-
Producing reports on different issues that occur in Sudan which can be used as evidence in asylum cases. These can be helpful to draw to the attention of your lawyer.
