What is it?
Council tax is a tax on domestic dwellings by local authorities (councils) throughout Britain and is based on the estimated value of your dwelling and the number of people living in it. Your council tax bill includes water and waste water charges which we collect on behalf of Scottish Water. Council tax is used to part fund services provided by the council. Some people are exempt from paying council tax or may be entitled to a discount.
How do I pay?
To make a payment you will need to know your reference number. It will be a number that starts with an 8, this can be found on a bill or letter from us about council tax. You can also find details about payment instalments on your bill.
You can choose to set up a Direct Debit with payments collected on either the 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd or 28th of each month, or every two or every four weeks.

To pay your bill by debit or credit card, using Glasgow City Council automated payment line (available 24 hours, 7 days a week including public holidays) or phone them on 0141 287 0300.

Council Tax Reduction
Council tax reduction can help towards your Council Tax bill if you are unemployed or on a low income.
You can apply using Council Tax Reduction application. Once you submit your application, Glasgow City Council will contact you to let you know if you qualify.
What proof do I need?
The level of evidence you need to provide depends on your income and circumstances. Glasgow City Council may ask for the following evidence to support your application:
You (and your partner's) identity and National Insurance number.
Where you live.
Your rent.
You (and your partner's) income.
Savings & investments (you may still qualify even if you have savings).
Occupational pension (and partner's).
The circumstances of other people who live with you.
Please do not delay in applying for benefit whilst waiting for any of the information listed above. Glasgow City Council only accept original documents. They will retain any original documents provided for 6 weeks prior to them being securely disposed of. If you require your original documents returned to you, you must request this when submitting the documents or within the 6 week period.
In certain circumstances, Glasgow City Council may backdate your application for council tax reduction to a date before you made your application.

Council Tax is a very important and must be paid if you did not pay on time Gasgow City Council will send a reminder letter to pay your council tax if you did not pay it you will be recieving a penalty letter. Soctt and Co
Glasgow City Council will transfer your case to Scott and Co to collect Tax arrears and penalties and they will send you a letter to arrange your payments and if you did not make any arragements with them they will transfer your case to the court. If you recieved a letter from Scott and Co We strongly advice you to pay your penalties in full or in installments if arranged.
